Major achievements of DUHOZANYE.
Since its inception, DUHOZANYE has mainly been concerned about the socio-economic development of its members who were all widows of the genocide with an aim of enabling them to get out isolation and poor conditions they were living in. In collaboration with its partners, the activities carried out by DUHOZANYE have yielded fruitful results which constitute a solid foundation on which the Association will build its future. Among other things, the following can be recalled :
The construction of 330 houses with bathrooms : as of today, 330 widows have a house, a kitchen and a latrine ;
Owning headquarters (Bureau , Guest house, other houses)
The memorial site where more than 3,000 victims of genocide are buried,
The distribution of 87 cows in the households of beneficiaries, which currently has
reached above 300 households thanks to rotation system ;
The opening of two cooperative silos to help members and people within the operational zone to stock their harvest in good conditions ;
Within the framework of self reliance, initiation of income generating activities including trade of beverages, carpentry, farming of pigs and manufacturing of feeding stuff for livestock ;
Ensuring some vocational training (carpentry, sewing, knitting, hairdressing salon and masonry) for young orphans ;
Training of members on modern agricultural and breeding technology.
Providing support in agricultural technology and organization of 1,439 farmers grouped in 46 associations making the cooperative known as TURWANYINZARA in Nyabuyogera swamp ;
Organization of members at the grassroots level in solidarity schemes (MUSO) whereby a micro-finance informal fund of farmers allows to mobilize resources and grant credit ;
Development of partnership with the decentralized authorities and other development actors.
Organize and capacity building 9 cooperatives of beekeepers in 9 sectors of Gisagara District in 2009-2010 ;
Support 84 OVCs in vocational trainings in 6 sectors in Gisagara District in 2009 ;
Support 647 OVCs through their groups in income generating projects in 6 sectors of Gisagara District in 2008 ;
6 Child protection networks are operational in 6 sectors in Gisagara district ;
Several trainings have done to increase the knowledge of beneficiaries in different fields (legal services, project management, conflict management and peace building, etc.) ;
All these results have enabled member widows of DUHOZANYE to get out of isolation, to integrate into socio-economic development and even to serve as models in their communities. The widows of DUHOZANYE involved in decision-making structures to a percentage of more that 60% at the grassroots level.
